Siting a lodge requires the right tools for the job!

Siting a lodge, static caravan or twin unit involves adjusting working practices to suit the location.

Manoeuvring a holiday home onto a pitch, base, or plot, involves careful planning and the right equipment, vehicles and machinery, to help take the heavy lifting out of the job, to to make it safe for everyone involved.

Lodges are heavy to move because they are timber framed modular mobile homes that are made and transported in two halves and all siting jobs need to be planned carefully, because every plot throws up a different challenge . Understanding which modular half to move first is key to getting the job done safely without causing damage or injury.

Maes Mynan Park as a new holiday park development offers and excellent example on the type of siting service Acorn Caravan Transport can offer.

On this occasion, in September 2019, Acorn Caravan Transport was asked to site  a bespoke luxury lodge made by Prestige Homeseeker at Maes Mynan Park in time for their launch on the 19th – an event that was attended by Lord Elis-Thomas, the deputy Welsh minister for Business, Culture and Tourism.

At the time the weather was very wet and the development was still very much a construction site, with only the first 4 bases ready to receive lodges on to the Park.  As Maes Mynan Park was a former sand and gravel quarry, the new holiday park landscaping in the luxury lodge section of the holiday park included terracing, batters, bunds and banks around two lakes. In essence, this meant navigating the banks and drops to get the lodge sited on its base.

Siting a Lodge at Maes Mynan Park

On every job, the Acorn Caravan Transport team first assess the practicalities of the job and its safety before deciding on the best approach. In this case, at Maes Mynan Park, a crane lift was ruled unnecessary, as the bank could be negotiated using extra long aluminium ramps to counter the drop to the pitch. With the help and assistance of the Acorn tractor, Landover, winches, chains and boards, the lodge was moved safely on to its base without causing any damage to the ground, or lodge, despite the wet conditions.

The two halves of the lodge were then manoeuvred into position before the team bolted and levelled it together, making sure it was ready for its final internal finishing by the Prestige Homeseeker team.
